Emma Ward's first published work of fiction targets a reading audience of upper elementary school students. The five stories that make up Secrets deal with five different children, each with his or her own special talent. In fact, the children are based om Ms. Ward's own five grandchildren, and each character's uniqueness is inspired by each of these very real children. That, however, is the point at which fact ends and fiction begins.
