This is the twelfth book of the Oz series. Many years ago, before he had become a tin man, Nick Chopper was engaged to a lovely Munchkin girl named Nimmie Amee. He no longer loves her because when his limbs were replaced with tin, his body had no heart, and even the red silk one given to him by the Wizard did not succeed in reviving this love. But now the Woodman decides to find the girl, marry her and bring her home as Empress of the Winkies. He sets out with his friend the Scarecrow and Woot the Wanderer. On the way they meet another tin man, also a product of the skilled tinsmith who made our Tin Woodman. The two metal men soon discover that they are both engaged to the same girl, who fell in love with the tin soldier after Nick had left her ....

The Tin Woodman of Oz: The Tin Man and the Scarecrow are regaling each other with tales of past adventures in the Tin Man's castle in the Winkie Country when a Gillikin boy named Woot wanders into their presence. After he is fed and rested (which the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow, not being of blood and flesh, do not need), Woot asks the Tin Man how he became made of tin. The Tin Man tells Woot the story of how he had once been a flesh-and-blood woodman in love with a maiden named Nimmie Aimee. Woot suggests that since the Tin Man now has a kind and loving heart, it is his duty to find Nimmie Aimee and make her Empress of the Winkies. The Scarecrow agrees, so the three set off to search for the girl. Will they find her, and if they do will she still love the Tin Man? This lavishly illustrated edition has more than one hundred illustrations by John R. Neill.

Some pages previously taped with white tape, but some of which are now still loose. 288, pp. First Canadian Edition. This Canadian edition is, identical with the American first state except for the imprint of the Copp, Clark Co., Limited, of Toronto on the title page and spine. With 8 if 12 color plates (4 plates missing) by John R. Neill without captions. There are numerous black & white drawings by John R. Neill. Giften inscription to owner on Page 11. Some drawing or coloring by owner on black and white plates. There is wear to all color plates. Please note book condition is poor. Book is eminently readable. No pages appear to be missing. There is a 9x6?, red cloth, pictorial cover label (3" by 2" of which are rubbed off l; black & white pictorial endpapers.As with the American first state, the publisher's advertisement on the verso of the ownership leaf lists eleven titles, the last being The Tin Woodman of Oz.
