The Mouse in the House is a Christmas poem for children, but I''ve yet to meet an adult who didn''t enjoy the tale. I originally wrote it as a Christmas letter. I knew it was good, but I was unprepared for the enthusiastic response I received from those who read it. An artist friend of mine, Jimmy O''Connell, enjoyed it so much that he donated his talent (and much of his time) to illustrate the published edition. We spend a night with a timid little mouse, who lives in the basement ceiling of a home that belongs to a kind, older couple. She scampers around at night, collecting trinkets and hoarding them back to her cozy little home. On Christmas eve, she is astounded to see a tree in the house! Exploring further, she discovers the nativity crèche, where the Baby Jesus gives her a truly wonderful present. The Mouse in the House became an instant Christmas Classic in our family, as it did for many of our friends. It is a special Christmas experience and it is my hope that others will enjoy it as much as we do.
