Believe Dreams Can Come True is written and illustrated by Rob Easter. The book tells the story of Elephant’s journey across Africa, the friends she made, the lessons they learnt and a little bit of magic. A story for all the family. The tales are often humorous and entertaining. Each chapter has been written so that it can be read as a bed time story ending with happy thoughts and ideas. For older children and parents there are thought provoking subjects on life. It is a book the parents would want to read and the children would be happy to listen to many times. Elephant has the opportunity to move from the African drylands to a house in England but she needs to overcome her natural resistance to change. Hippo likes things the same and had suggested there was no point. “It’s going to be different but the same”, Hippo said “every day you will get up, wash, drink, eat, day dream and then go back to sleep. You can do that here as well. So, why go?” The main theme of the book is that there is no such word as CAN’T and starts with Elephant remembering how she had always wanted to fly and her grandad’s advice When Elephant was young she had wanted to fly, she tried flapping her ears, jumping and whirling her tail, but all in vain. She had climbed small tree trunks and rocks and jumped off, always landing with a thud.” Her mother scolded her telling her that elephants can’t fly. Later her Grandad talks to her. Normally Grandad would pick her up or tell a few jokes. Tonight, however, he was in a much more serious mood. He only told his granddaughter one thing “There’s no such word as Can’t.” The children with be interested to learn about Tooth Fairy’s nightly routine and her poem which includes the verse, Build a bubble around you whilst sleeping For your thoughts that are worth keeping Happy dreams you keep in Bad thoughts you throw out The bubble always has what you’re seeking.
