  • Broken

    Julie Astier

    (Independently published, March 3, 2020)
Maybe seventeen-year old Samuel’s life would have turned out better if he had a mother who cared about him and a father who didn't yell and hit. Maybe if he wasn’t bullied at school everyday, he could feel safe. He wouldn’t need to smoke pot to calm the angry voices in his head. Or set fires to feel in control of his life. Perhaps if Chloe, the girl across the street, liked him back, he would be happy. Samuel is a ticking time bomb of emotions and when Chloe invites him to a party, it sets off a chain of events that changes the course of everyone’s life. Forever.

    Kerry Abbott

  • Broken

    Bon Dy

    (Independently published, June 28, 2018)
She did not have a home, money, an opportunity to get a good education and live humanly; she had nothing but a sick mother, unrequited love, rich relatives who, seeing her plight, scoffed at her in every way, trying to feed and break her even more, but despite all this, she continued to struggle, believing that everything will change for the better and all the bad in her life will necessarily end. But what can we expect to encounter again and again with the cruel manifestation of this world? Although you reflect these blows and continue to take one more step forward, you yourself do not notice how these blows gradually take away your strength and most importantly your faith in yourself. So it happened and with Mabel at one point her hands finally fell and yes ... the end came ... the end came to her ... And when the end came to her, the end came and all her difficulties ... This is not something you might think at first, she did not get rid of her problems by deciding everything with her death, her life was just fine, but it was already settled without her ... She had to live another day to wait for the end of all her problems. But she dropped her arms, ceasing to fight, deciding that in her life nothing would ever change and everything was over ... She gave up when there was one more step left, when there was still one more effort to make, to swallow tears of resentment and disappointment and to live another day, when everything would change and what she so fervently dreamed of would come to her. So, in this tragic end I did not want to show all the injustice of this life, on the contrary I wanted to show how not to give up when it seemed all is over, you need to make one more effort on yourself, because despite what is happening in your life now, if you believe and continue to do it, then the expected changes are already waiting for you around the corner. This book is a clear example of how we sometimes make a fatal mistake - we surrender, when only one step is left to the cherished goal ...

Broken Sky weaves a tale of the Native American, the Indian, passing on a story of sharing and the importance of remembering tradition with a focus on nature. Delightfully illustrated, children will become involved following each page through the illustrations and the heart felt words. Rain is falling. The story follows as the rain fills the animals' homes. Burrows were flooding and tunnels were collapsing from the wetness. Nests on the ground and in the trees were not safe. Is the sky broken? A. E. Rought, Katie Fenton

MP3 CD (Audible Studios on Brilliance Audio, Sept. 13, 2016)
A string of suspicious deaths near a small Michigan town ends with a fall that claims the life of Emma Gentry's boyfriend, Daniel. Emma is broken, a hollow shell mechanically moving through her days. Now she restlessly wanders the town, haunting the cemetery and its white-marbled tombs, feeling Daniel everywhere. When she encounters newcomer Alex Franks, she's intrigued despite herself. He's an enigma, melting into shadows, preferring to keep to himself. But he is as drawn to her as she is to him. He is strangely familiar, from the way he knows how to open her locker when it sticks, to the nickname she shared only with Daniel. The closer they become, though, the more something inside her screams there's something very wrong with Alex Franks.... A modern spin on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein where a young couple's undying love and the grief of a father pushed beyond sanity could spell the destruction of them all.
