Clarice, a young girl, is curious about what Dash has on her face. "What do you have on your face?" Dash doesn't answer Clarice's question. So, Clarice rephrases her question, "What's on your nose?" Dash looking attentively at Clarice replies, "It's a muzzle!" Clarice had never seen a muzzle before and wanting to know what a muzzle is and why Dash has it on her face accepts Dash's invitation to go for a walk with her. The two walk along a garden path, past the Bark and Biscuit bakery to the beach where they meet up with Roy, a beagle, who loves to eat garbage and other nasties that have washed in with the tide. Clarice's curiosity continues to grow as she meets more of Dash's muzzle-wearing doggie friends: Dodger, a high-strung, yet somewhat aloof border collie; Phoebe, an aristocrat, Chinese Crested; and let's not forget Brook, an Australian cattle dog with a propensity towards two-eared, four-legged mammals. It's a fun read for my grandchildren full of humour and the drawings add a beautiful visual journey to it. I highly recommend this book. Children will love to meet all Dash's doggie friends. My favourite was Dodger, a silly and somewhat crazy border collie. A wonderful book for early readers! Captivating illustrations! Two thumbs up. From the Author Dash is a rescue who came into our lives 4 years ago. A mischievous, lovable, naughty, grey hair causing Siberian husky. A rendition of a true husky owner's life. Dash was a feral dog living on the streets in Yellowknife. As dogs cannot speak our language, we could only guess what she had experienced in her early years. It was, however, pretty clear that she had been traumatized. She was reactive and lacking social skills. These past 4 years Dash has taught us love, patience, empathy, and understanding. She is the rescue who rescued me. I have written What's On Your Nose? to bring awareness to the reasons that dogs are muzzled and to educate children and adults alike that muzzles have a purpose; that they are not scary; and that when used correctly can "like a seatbelt" keep you safe.

This story, is the first in a 12 part series, chronicling aspects of the life of Genesis, a precocious five year old girl growing up on the island of Antigua. ‘Wash the Dog’ is the introduction to Genesis, who spends a lovely afternoon with her cousin Jordan, tackling the task of getting the stinky family dog clean. It is a whimsical, catchy story that rhymes, fun for children to read out loud and very easy to remember. The illustrations, are done beautifully by a local Antiguan artist named Anson Henry, who captures the very essence of the words, written by Tameka. They go hand in hand to tell a very simple tale, that will cause children to either go and wash their own family pet (whatever it may be), or encourage those who have none, to ask their parents to get them one, just because of how much fun it seems to have a pet,through the eyes of Genesis.
