  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame

    Victor Hugo

    Hardcover (International Collector's Library, Aug. 16, 1980)
The story is quite expansive, but filled with a great variation of characters and turns of events. I am always impressed that our human history has changed over the centuries but people's characters seem to still follow similar patterns. The hunchback and Esmeralda have impressed me the most. Both facing huge difficulties and obstacles in their lives but both remaining true to their basic decency and compassion for others. ( Amazon customer)

  • The Short Novels of John Steinbeck

    John Steinbeck

Hardcover (International Collectors Library, March 15, 1953)
Included in the First Edition hardback volume are six of Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck's most widely read and beloved short novels-Tortilla Flat, The Red Pony, Of Mice and Men, The Moon Is Down, Cannery Row and The Pearl. From Steinbeck's tale of commitment, loneliness, and hope in Of Mice and Men, to his tough yet charming portrait of people on the margins of Monterey society in Cannery Row, to The Pearl's mythic examination of the fallacy of the American dream, Steinbeck created stories that were realistic, rugged, and imbued with energy and resilience.
