The story is quite expansive, but filled with a great variation of characters and turns of events. I am always impressed that our human history has changed over the centuries but people's characters seem to still follow similar patterns. The hunchback and Esmeralda have impressed me the most. Both facing huge difficulties and obstacles in their lives but both remaining true to their basic decency and compassion for others. ( Amazon customer)
