  • Untamed

    Steve Bloom

    Paperback (Abrams, May 1, 2008)
For more than ten years, wildlife photographer Steve Bloom traveled all over the world, roaming through the jungles of Borneo, the African savannahs, and the frozen banks of Antarctica to assemble this dazzling collection of photographs of animals in their natural environments. With an international range that is rare in books of animal photography, the 200 photographs in Untamed (2004) bring to life a vast panorama of animal diversity and the landscapes, climates, and habitats in which these creatures live. Now this terrific survey of Bloom's animal photography is available in a smaller, giftable format. Once again, the reader is treated to the serene gaze of a gorilla relaxing in the trees, a shark jumping in midair to catch its prey, a Siberian tiger traipsing through the snow in search of food, and penguins congregating on an ice floe. Bloom's anthropomorphic approach reveals rage, tenderness, and even humor in his subjects, capturing those fleeting moments when the gap between animal and human seems to disappear altogether. These amazing images, augmented by a personal account of Bloom's unforgettable career as a wildlife photographer, make this reissue of Untamed an excellent gift for all animal and photography.

  • NASA/ART: 50 Years of Exploration

James D. Dean, Bertram Ulrich, Tom Crouch, Michael Collins

    Hardcover (Abrams, Oct. 1, 2008)
Artists, like astronauts, are constantly probing into the unknown. It is fitting that, shortly after the establishment of NASA in 1958, the NASA Art Program was created on the principle that artists are uniquely equipped to interpret and document the experience of space exploration. In the program’s early years, artists as diverse as Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Norman Rockwell, and James Wyeth participated. Over time, the Art Program has commissioned work from many of the world’s most distinguished artists. The collection includes works by Alexander Calder, Nam June Paik, William Wegman, Mike and Doug Starn, Vija Celmins, and Annie Leibovitz. Along with a two-year touring exhibition with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), NASA/Art celebrates the 50th anniversary of NASA in October 2008 with an expanded selection of the best work created for the NASA Art Program, and stands as a lasting record of the impact of space exploration on the artistic imagination.

    Carl Warner

    Hardcover (Abrams, Aug. 16, 2012)

The book culminates in a spectacular rainbow hued scene. Accompanying each image is a poem and some brief text that guides the reader through the picture and identifies the various elements that make up the scene. It's a perfect book for parents with fussy' children to look at together and discover and name all t he various foods that make up Warner's fantastical universe, making them both exciting and less 'scary'.
