Originally published in 1922, this is the second book in a series of Lofting’s children’s books following the adventures of Doctor Dolittle. Extensively illustrated with the author’s own black and white drawings, it is an enduring favourite that is much loved by children and adults alike Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

But I now come to set down that part of the great man's life which I myself saw and took part in. Many years ago the Doctor gave me permission to do this. But we were both of us so busy then voyaging around the world, having adventures and filling note-books full of natural history that I never seemed to get time to sit down and write of our doings.
