    Arthur Conan Doyle

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Jan. 6, 2017)
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes are overshadowed by the event with which they close - the meeting of the great detective and Moriarty, the Napoleon of Crime. Their struggle, seemingly to the death, was to leave many readers desolate at the loss of Holmes, but was also to lead to his immortality as a literary figure.

  • The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

    Arthur Conan Doyle

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, June 1, 2017)
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, originally published in 1893, by Arthur Conan Doyle. The first London edition of the Memoirs in 1894 did not include "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box", although all twelve stories had appeared in the Strand Magazine. The first U.S. edition included the story, but it was very quickly replaced with a revised edition that omitted it. The reasoning behind the suppression is unclear. In Britain the story was apparently removed at Doyle's request as it included adultery and so was unsuitable for younger readers. This may have also been the cause for the rapid removal of the story from the U.S. edition, and some sources state that the publishers believed the story was too scandalous for the American public.

  • The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Ralph Cosham

    2010 (Blackstone Audio, Inc., Dec. 1, 2010)
[This MP3CD audiobook format edition is published by Blackstone Audio, Inc. and is read by Ralph Cosham] These eleven delightful stories of the famous hawkeyed detective are told by his friend and foil, Dr. Watson. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle draws us into nineteenth-century London--hansom cabs, train rides, and foggy nights--where he astutely solves the most complex and perplexing cases of the day. Among the short stories included in this collection is ''The Gloria Scott,'' an account of Holmes's very first case. The various adventures in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes are overshadowed by the event with which they close--the meeting of the great detective and Moriarty, the Napoleon of Crime. That struggle, seemingly to the death, was to leave many readers desolate at the loss of Holmes but was also to lead to his immortality as a literary figure.

  • The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Simon Prebble

    MP3 CD (Tantor Audio, March 8, 2010)
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes are overshadowed by the event with which they close-the meeting of the great detective and Moriarty, the Napoleon of Crime. When "The Final Problem" was first published, the struggle between Holmes and his arch nemesis, seemingly to the death, left many readers desolate at the loss of Holmes, but it also led to his immortality as a literary figure. The stories that precede it included two narratives from Holmes himself-on a mutiny at sea and a treasure hunt in a Sussex country house-as well as a meeting with his brilliant brother Mycroft. Included in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes are "Silver Blaze," "The Yellow Face," "The Stock-Broker's Clerk," "The 'Gloria Scott,'" "The Musgrave Ritual," "The Reigate Puzzle," "The Crooked Man," "The Resident Patient," "The Greek Interpreter," "The Naval Treaty," and "The Final Problem."

Paperback (Independently published, Aug. 7, 2017)
Adventure I. Silver Blaze “I am afraid, Watson, that I shall have to go,” said Holmes, as we sat down together to our breakfast one morning. “Go! Where to?” “To Dartmoor; to King’s Pyland.” I was not surprised. Indeed, my only wonder was that he had not already been mixed up in this extraordinary case, which was the one topic of conversation through the length and breadth of England. For a whole day my companion had rambled about the room with his chin upon his chest and his brows knitted, charging and recharging his pipe with the strongest black tobacco, and absolutely deaf to any of my questions or remarks. Fresh editions of every paper had been sent up by our news agent, only to be glanced over and tossed down into a corner. Yet, silent as he was, I knew perfectly well what it was over which he was brooding. There was but one problem before the public which could challenge his powers of analysis, and that was the singular disappearance of the favorite for the Wessex Cup, and the tragic murder of its trainer. When, therefore, he suddenly announced his intention of setting out for the scene of the drama it was only what I had both expected and hoped for. “I should be most happy to go down with you if I should not be in the way,” said I.

  • The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

    Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Paperback (Ostrich Books, Aug. 30, 2015)
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of short stories, including the adventures of The Silver Blaze, The Musgrave Ritual, and The Final Problem. This collection not only introduces the term “smoking gun”, it also introduces Holmes’ greatest nemesis, Professor Moriarty. Holmes will need to use his various skills, including a knack at cracking ciphers, deciphering riddles, tricking thieves, analyzing tracks, and faking sickness to solve cases involving impersonation, burglary and revenge. Sherlock Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess and is renowned for his skilful use of deductive reasoning, astute observation, and forensic skills to solve difficult cases. Deductive reasoning allows Holmes to impressively reveal a stranger’s occupation. Similarly, by studying inanimate objects, he is able to make astonishingly detailed deductions about their owners. This mindset was a major innovation in the field of crime fiction, inspiring authors like Robert J. Sawyer, Neil Gaiman and Stephen King.
