‘The lion who was afraid of the dark' is a tale about one of the most determinant and prevailing feelings in mankind: fear. It is an ambiguous and necessary emotion. On one hand it limits us, and on the other hand it preserves our physical and psychological integrity. Therefore, it is our job as parents and educators to teach children how to deal with, accept and conquer fears. This tale, illustrated by Mafalda Azevedo, when she was only 13 years old, is about a small group of animals, who find an original and fun way to overcome a distressing situation of bullying. Anxiety, self-transcendence, courage, creativity, acceptance and friendship are all themes addressed in this story.
