  • The River Hat

    V. Fern

Paperback (Trafford on Demand Pub, Feb. 1, 2004)
Margie O'Neeley is an active four-year-old with a strong independence and zest for life! She lives with her Mom, who is a single parent. One day, her favorite aunt brings her a very special gift, and from that moment on she and her "pal" are inseperable. Like all four-year-olds, Margie is care-free and active. She and her new friend ride bikes together (with a helmet on, of course), bake chocolate chip cookies (their favorite), paint pictures in the sun and more! This is Valerie's first publication and her ease at expressing a child's sense of adventure, spirit and simplicity shines through on each page! Margie O'Neeley brings out the "kid" in all of us. Valerie has another Early Reader in the works entitled, The Day the Sky Rained Silver, which will be released in 2004. This project pulls at her heart as it was born in many villages throughout Mexico and the Yucatan. It has a magic of its own! In addition, it is a bilingual text, complete with an English/Spanish glossary. Children are the primary focus of Valerie's work, however, she is a fiction writer and poet as well. She facilitates a Poet Club weekly at the elementary school where she is a sixth grade teacher and hopes to publish a poetry book which includes her young poet's works!

“We want you to do it again.” These words, spoken to Brian Robeson, will change his life. Two years earlier, Brian was stranded alone in the wilderness for 54 days with nothing but a small hatchet. Yet he survived. Now the government wants him to go back into the wilderness so that astronauts and the military can learn the survival techniques that kept Brian alive. Soon the project backfires, though, leaving Brian with a wounded partner and a long river to navigate. His only hope is to build a raft and try to transport the injured man a hundred miles downstream to a trading post--if the map he has is accurate. From the Paperback edition.
