  • The Mystery of Orcival

    Emile Gaboriau

language (Jovian Press, Jan. 19, 2018)
Monsieur Lecoq is the creation of Emile Gaboriau, just like Sherlock Holmes is for Conan Doyle and Hercule Poirot for Agatha Christie. Lecoq was created well before anyone had heard of Sherlock, infact it is a known fact that Doyle drew inspiration for Sherlock's character from Lecoq. The methodically, scientific manner in which Lecoq solves crimes is interesting to read, along with the ruthlessness of his conduct in some instances...
  • Mystery of the Mirror

Arielle Kneeland, Patty Gardner, Lianne Simon

language (Jesse Kneeland, Oct. 30, 2015)
Danielle thinks that her life as an inventor's daughter is pretty normal, though a little wacky at times. But when she finds a girl that has mysteriously appeared in her mirror, she realizes that things might be stranger than they seem. As Danielle, her cousin Macy, and their new friend from the mirror try to keep the situation under their control, the opposite happens, and the unavoidable unfolds. A strange teenage boy, a robot dog named Cupcake, an evil company, and a new and dangerous idea...--- SAMPLE ----Introduction:"Whoo-pee!" Danielle Fosggare yelled, swooshing through the air on a rope swing tied to a rafter in her father's barn. She jumped off and landed on a board nailed between two poles holding up the roof. "You can go now, Macy," She yelled to her best friend and cousin waiting on a run-down platform on the other side of the barn. Macy immediately jumped onto the rope and swung back and forth. "Whee!" she shouted, twirling around and around. She waited until she slowed down to a stop before jumping to stand next to Danielle. "Your dad's Fun Park is the best," she said. "You're so lucky. I wish MY dad was an inventor." "It IS nice," Danielle admitted. "But try not to think about it. There's always a time where one of his wacky machines comes out bad. I know, let's go get us each a Cake-Pop!" "All right!" Macy cheered, and they skipped off to the Cake-Pop Machine. Inserting two quarters into the slot, Danielle waited until the plastic bags dropped out of the opening, grabbed them, and, handing one to Macy, ripped hers open. "Oh, I got lemon!" she squealed, while Macy groaned, “Strawberry AGAIN? That's all I ever get." "Well, at least you didn't get chocolate," Danielle said, biting the frosting off of the ball of cake at the end of her stick. "That's the most common flavor that the machine makes." Macy giggled. "I was going to ask you if you wanted to trade, but you've already gotten your mouth on yours, so you can bet I'm not going to now." Danielle laughed, too. "You know I wouldn't have anyways. Lemon is my favorite." Suddenly, both girls heard the unmistakable sound of Danielle's mother's voice. "Danielle! Where are you? It's time for lunch!" Danielle jumped. "I've gotta go. Mom never lets me be late for meals. I'll probably see you when we have your family over tomorrow." "All right, see you then," Macy yelled as Danielle sprinted off. "Bye!""Bye!" Danielle shouted, slamming the screen door to her family's house.

    Sally Ride, Tom O'Shaughnessy

    Paperback (Scholastic,Inc., Aug. 16, 2000)
In 1997, NASA's Pathfinder began a new era in Mars exploration when it touched down and, along with its tiny rover, Sojourner, explored the Martian surface for the first time in 20 years. In December 1999, a new NASA spacecraft will land on Mars, to be followed by several more missions over the coming decade. In The Mystery of Mars, former astronaut Sally Ride and science teacher Tam O'Shaughnessy draw on the latest Pathfinder data, as well as decades of study of Mars, to present a comprehensive overview of Earth's nearest neighbor. With its thin atmosphere, rocky canyons, extinct volcanoes, and icy polar regions, Mars has many things in common with Earth--and may have even had life. Comparing the two planets' evolution, geology, and geography, the authors explain what we know about Mars today and what we hope to learn about it in the future. With lavish color photographs, this engaging and accessible introduction to the Red Planet is the ideal guide to this new age of Mars research.

  • The Mystery of Life

    Jim R Turner

(Christian Faith Publishing, Inc, Oct. 3, 2019)
More than half a century ago, a young man who had been attending weekly church services with his family became increasingly aware of conflicts that existed among the different "Christian" denominations. After spending three years studying in a conservative Bible school, he still found himself questioning much of what he had been taught over the years. Every denomination insisted that their beliefs are based on the Bible, but after seeking advice from a number of church leaders, he found that their conflicting answers only raised more questions. He decided that instead of relying on secondhand information from men who claimed to speak for God, it was his own responsibility to know what the Bible actually said about life. He was encouraged by a promise in John 8:32, "You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free." After much prayer and consideration, he vowed to God that he would make memorizing the Bible a daily priority in his life. He has now kept that vow for more than half a century. Although Christian churches and most religions use verses from the Bible to support their religion, the Bible is not a religious book; rather, it is a living legal document inspired by our Creator as a Manual for Life. Little did he suspect that it contained a mystery so profound that it would completely transform his life. Only after the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified, rose from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of the throne of God was the most profound mystery the world has ever known-revealed. What you are about to read has the power to completely transform your life. This is not a book about religion or about how to believe in yourself and become a better person. This book contains the literal words and promises of your Creator to every soul that longs to know the truth and fully understand the Mystery of Life. "If any man speaks, let him speak the words of God." (1 Pet. 4:11).
