In a small northern Village there is a large Norman Church. Hidden behind the church, deep within the undergrowth, there is another village; it is a magical place known as the ‘Plot.’ The ‘Plot is alive with vegetables, herbs and all manner of greenery, who all live happily together within their small community until they are threatened by an environmental disaster. When the nursery is flooded and the soil contaminated by strange green water. The babies in the nursery, including Billy Beetroots sister Betty are in great danger. Their leaves begin to wilt, as all attempts to save them seem destined to fail. A young Beetroot called Billy sets out with his best friend Peter Parsnip in search of the mythical ‘Lightning Tree.’ Sage, an ancient Elder believes that the soil from the base of the tree has magical qualities and is the only thing that can save the nursery. It is believed that the ‘Lightning Tree,’ stands at the very centre of the ‘Whispering Woods and is the reason for the Plots existence.’ A great wizard lost his temper when a spell went wrong and shot a magical lightning bolt from his staff, which struck the tree and split it in two. Billy and Peter meet several creatures on their adventure, one of these, Barney the Owl, knows of the ‘Lightning Tree,’ and he along with a Hedgehog called Harry, join the two vegetables on their quest. They face several dangers on the way and are continuously hounded by the Marsh Hares, which are large rabbit like creatures with red eyes.’ Concerned for their friends, Tony Turnip and Sweet Pea ask Lieutenant Leek for help. He agrees and sends the ‘Elite Squad of Leeks’ on a rescue mission. Led by Cadwallader, the band enters the ‘Whispering Woods’ in search of Billy and Peter. With time running out Billy must find the tree and return to the ‘Plot’ to save his sister and the rest of the baby vegetables, before it is too late.
