  • The Boy from Earth

    Lyle Ven

eBook (Lyle Ven, Aug. 25, 2014)
Zack Desor has no idea how he woke up in the world of Zajitar. His mysterious arrival catches the attention of an equally mysterious woman named Trezna, who belongs to a magical race known as Enkanters. In no time he begins to exhibit his own set of powers that are far more devastating than anyone she has ever seen. Trezna helps Zack get his powers under control as Enkanters are hunted by the technologically-advance Therador Empire, at war with all magical beings. When the warring leaders discover that he is from the ‘mythical’ world of Earth, their war suddenly becomes all about him. But despite becoming public-enemy-number-one, Trezna continues to shelter him while he tries to find a way home. However, his only lead is her estranged brother-in-law, Xionar; a general of the very empire that wants them dead. Zack takes his chances with Xionar, who offers him the vast resources of the Therador to assist his search for a way back to Earth. All he wants in exchange is Trezna, so he can kill her and reverse her curse that slowly turns him to stone as long as he loves his wife. Now Zack must make a dire choice: betray his only friend or be stuck in this war-torn world forever—until he uncovers a disturbing truth linking Trezna to Earth, and the reason why he's there.
  • From the Earth to the Moon

    Jules Verne

Audio Cassette (Blackstone Audio, Inc., May 1, 2000)
[Audiobook CASSETTE Library Edition in vinyl case.][Read by Bernard Mayes] Voyages Extraordinaires, 1865 Written more than a century before man landed on the moon, this classic adventure tale has proved to be one of Jules Verne's most prophetic. It is also a forerunner of today's science fiction. At the close of the Civil War, the members of the elite Baltimore Gun Club find themselves unemployed and bored. Finally, their president, Impey Barbicane, proposes a new project: build a gun big enough to launch a rocket (a 'space bullet') to the moon. But when a daring volunteer elevates the mission to a ''manned'' flight, one man's dream turns into an international space race. This is a story of rollicking action, humor, and vibrant imagination, full of both satire and scientific insight. Though often scientifically outdated, books of Verne's ''Voyages Extraordinaires'' series still retain their sense of wonder that appealed to readers of his time, and still provoke an interest in the sciences among the young. *This novel was made into a motion picture in 1958, starring Joseph Cotten, George Sanders, and Debra Paget.

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Dec. 24, 2015)
Jules Verne (1828-1905) is one of the most recognizable names in Western literature, coming to be known as one of the Fathers of Science-Fiction. Although he studied to be a lawyer and held stock trading jobs, he quickly learned that he had a knack for weaving adventurous stories of travels and expeditions. It didn’t hurt that one of his teachers may have been inventor Brutus de Villeroi, who created the first submarine for the U.S. Navy. Verne wrote about air travel and space travel 50 years before either was possible.
