  • Text-Book of Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses

    Diana Clifford Kimber

Paperback (Forgotten Books, July 6, 2017)
Excerpt from Text-Book of Anatomy and Physiology for NursesThat this revision has been accomplished with, I trust, success, is almost entirely owing to the kind assistance given me by Mr. T. Pickering Pick, and by Percy M. Dawson, M.D., Assistant Professor Of Physiology in the Johns Hopkins Uni versity, Baltimore. To the latter I am indebted for the whole recasting, and in large measure rewriting, of the chapter on the Nervous System, and also, to a slighter extent, Of Chapters I. And XIX. Indeed, so greatly is this revision the work Of Dr. Dawson that I should have been glad, had I been allowed, to place his name with mine on the title-page.The chapter on the Nervous System has been transferred to its usual position in such text-books, namely, following the chapter on Muscles, but it is, of course, possible for those who prefer the Old arrangement to take this chapter later in the course Of study.A number Of new drawings have been made specially for this edition, including ten original ones by Dr. Dawson; also, to all the weights and measures, according to the English System, have been added their equivalents in the Metric System. It should be noted that the calculations are based upon the standard Of weights and measures adopted by the United States, and not upon those Of the British Pharmacopeia.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Accommodation.--Let us now consider briefly the process of accommodation, to the results of which attention has already been called. The lens of the eye is enclosed in a capsule which is attached all around its circumference by a ligament to the eye wall. The ligament is so tightly drawn that the lens is always compressed or flattened so that its focal length is less than it would be if it were without its capsule. If the "suspensory" ligament be relaxed, the lens will be relieved of its compression and will bulge, thus becoming more convex than before. The amount of increase in convexity will depend upon the degree to which the sus sec Fig. 96.--Diagram showing the nerve supply of the eye. • Text-Book of Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses

Diana Clifford Kimber, Carolyn Elizabeth Gray

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

  • Elements of Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses

    Percy M. Dawson

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Sept. 16, 2017)
Excerpt from Elements of Anatomy and Physiology for NursesIN the composition of this book the writer has been guided by his own needs and influenced by the following reflections. The field of Anatomy and Physiology is too large to be treated adequately in a textbook of less than several volumes. No nurse can or need become acquainted with the Whole field, but she should know pretty well those parts which border on her own experience. The training school may then with propriety seek to make the nurse thoroughly famil iar with a very few fundamental and typical phenomena such as may be presented in a little book, and furthermore it should encourage her to work up her cases from the larger reference books just as the doctor does, although of course in much less detail and from a somewhat different stand point. If she has thoroughly grasped the rudiments of the subject, this procedure will be an easy and pleasant one. This is no new-fangled notion, for the case method of teaching law and medical students is an old story. The case method has among other advantages this very obvious one, that the facts acquired in this way are a much more permanent acquisition than is the case when they are served cold, so to speak, in a lesson book.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
