  • When It's Time

    Shirley Gibbs, Michael Sanders

Paperback (Lifevest Publishing, Inc., March 19, 2009)
What do you say to a child who may be dying? When It s Time is a Christian picture gift book for children with terminal illnesses and for their parents. Written as a letter from Jesus, this inspirational book of encouragement, comfort and hope, offers a bridge for communication, helps express emotions, and still leaves room for miracles. Its picture book format offers a gentle nonthreatening means for parents to talk with a child, and with each other, about the possibility of the child s death. It still leaves room for hope, without offering false hope, and without saying the child will die. The phrase, when its time and not before, calms fears and offers hope. Gentle language, coupled with correlating Scripture, reassures the reader that the picture of heaven described in the book is valid. It evokes feelings of safety, security, and peace. The simplicity of the illustrations complements a compassionate message. The parent and caregiver guide provides information about grief and loss, as well as information about how children view death. Additional sections include suggestions for communication between spouses and with children, helping other children in the family, seeking God, providing structure for children, as well as useful phrases and activities to help children express their emotions and feel comforted.
  • Itty Bitty Saves the Day

    Armando N. Garza

Paperback (Lifevest Publishing, Inc., March 22, 2007)
"Itty Bitty Saves the Day" is a heartwarming picture book about a little Dachshund puppy that is born with special needs. Through tender care from his owner, MaryAnn, Itty Bitty is soon strong enough to eat alongside his brothers and sister. Itty Bitty is the runt of the litter, though, and has very BIG feet. He tries to keep up with his brothers and sister, but is just not strong enough. All of the puppies seem to be growing up big and strong, except for Itty Bitty. --But then, one beautiful, sunny day, Itty Bitty finds his doggie family in the middle of an emergency. Itty Bitty's size works to his advantage, and through his heroic actions he is able to save the day for his family. The original, color photographs and story relay one of life's true lessons to young children: "Even though you are little, you can do big things!" It is hoped that this simple story will inspire children of all ages, but especially children with special needs who know what it is like to be "Itty Bitty".
