A Tale of Two Cities
Charles Dickens
Mass Market Paperback
(Dolphin Books, March 15, 1960)
The two cities are London and Paris at the time of the French Revolution, and Dickens uses that savage uprising as the backdrop for plots, counterplots, and a fascinating assortment of minor characters. But primarily this is the story of Lucie Manette and the two men who loved her, all three of whom are unwillingly caught up in the turbulence of revolutionary Paris, involved in critical personal and political situations, and pitted against dangerous adversaries. The historical background and physical excitement are a departure from Dickens' usual style, but his mastery of character and situation is as sure as ever.
