About the Book The Renaissance is a period in European history, spanning between the 14th and 17th centuries, that lies between the Middle Ages, and leads through the Age of Enlightenment to modern history. The intellectual component of the Renaissance was its own invented version of humanism, and the rediscovery of classical Greek philosophy, which was manifested through art, architecture, politics, science and literature. As a cultural movement, it spawned a flowering of Latin and vernacular literatures, a resurgence of learning based on classical sources, and the development of linear perspective and other techniques that imparted more natural reality to painting, and gradual reforms in educational. The first appearances of Renaissance thinking were to be found in Italy, and came to cover much of Europe.
