(CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, June 8, 2014)
Sinclair Lewis was one of the most well-known writers in America during the early 20th century, and his portrayals of modern society were incredibly descriptive and often tinged with satire. Babbitt is one of his most notorious satirical novels and extremely critical of consumerism and the obsession with buying things.

Paperback (Chump Change, Jan. 2, 2017)
Unabridged value reproduction of BABBITT by the gritty realist and Nobel Prize winner Sinclair Lewis. It is a tale of the emptiness of materialism in the roaring twenties that applies today to those wanting a simpler life. The hero is Babbitt, ruling his business with militant normalcy and also the most grievous victim of his own militant dullness. Lewis describes it this way, β€œHe is all of us Americans at 46, prosperous but worried, wanting – passionately – to seize something more than motor cars and a house before it's too late.”

    Sinclair Lewis

(CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Jan. 18, 2014)
Babbitt, first published in 1922, is a novel by Sinclair Lewis. Largely a satire of American culture, society, and behavior, it critiques the vacuity of middle-class American life and its pressure toward conformity. An immediate and controversial bestseller, Babbitt is one of Lewis's best-known novels and was influential in the decision to award him the Nobel Prize in literature in 1930. The word "Babbitt" entered the English language as a "person and especially a business or professional man who conforms unthinkingly to prevailing middle-class standards". Adaptations Babbitt has been converted into films twice, a feat Turner Classic Movies describes as "impressive for a novel that barely has a plot." The first adaptation was a silent film released in 1924 and starring Willard Louis as George F. Babbitt. Better known is the 1934 talkie starring Guy Kibbee. That version, while remaining somewhat true to Lewis's novel, takes liberties with the plot, exaggerating Babbitt's affair and a sour real estate deal. Both films were Warner Bros. productions.

    Sinclair Lewis

    (Harcourt Brace & Company, Jan. 1, 1922)
Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1922. The First Edition, Second Printing of Sinclair Lewis' classic novel, "Babbitt". The first printing was in September of 1922; this second printing was in October of 1922. 12mo, deep navy cloth boards with orange imprinting on front cover and spine, 407 pp. (401 pp. + 6 pp ad section). By the time of this apparently relatively scarce second printing - just that one month later - the first-state points on page 49 had, of course, been fully amended. Very Good, lacking the jacket. Some spine fade, spine ends moderately worn (scan), corners touched, a simple "Dorothy" penned small on first free endpaper. Age toning of the contents is light and inoffensive. Contents otherwise flawless. Binding very sturdy. See all scans. Ships in a stout box, of course - not a bag. L73

    Sinclair Lewis

    Hardcover (IndyPublish, Feb. 15, 2002)
Businessman George F. Babbitt loves the latest appliances, brand names and the Republican party. In fact, he loves being a solid citizen even more than he loves his wife. But Babbitt comes to resent the middle class trappings he has worked so hard to acquire. Realising that his life is devoid of meaning, he grows determined to transcend his trivial existence and search for a greater purpose. Babbitt captures the flavour of America during the economic boom years of the 1920's, and its protagonist has become the symbol of middle-class mediocrity, his name an enduring part of the American lexicon.
