Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, June 30, 2013)
A tale of black smoke by the author of the Fu-Manchu stories. “A year ago England was shaken by the disclosures attending the Billie Carleton case. This well-known actress was found dead in a London hotel following an overdose of drugs. An official investigation followed and it was discovered that the vice of drug-taking was alarmingly widespread among some of the wealthiest classes of English society, and that the traffic in drugs was well-developed and amazing in its ramifications.. That is the situation today in some of our American cities, and it stands as one of our great unsolved problems. It is this problem – the secret menace of drugs and the traffic in them – which Sax Rohmer has used as a basis for ‘Dope,’ is latest and most powerful novel. ‘Dope’ is a mystery story with that Oriental setting in which Rohmer is at his best, with splendid characterization and page after page of exciting incident. But it is also an expose, based upon actual knowledge, of vicious conditions so general and so threatening that the book acquires an importance which no ordinary mystery story can possibly achieve. We predict that ‘Dope’ will be more popular than anything that Rohmer has previous written.” -Publishers Weekly Volume 96, Part 1, July 5, 1919 Kazmah the 'dream reader' and other memorable characters populate this tale of terror, as sinister Eastern forces work to control post-Edwardian London through the opium trade... Sax Rohmer, creator of Fu Manchu, returns to the Yellow Menace theme that so characterized his work;. Dope is a gripping story of drug-addiction and abuse among the London upper classes and is one of his most popular novels.

    Paperback (Aegypan, March 1, 2007)
Mr. Monte Irvin hires a private investigation agency to follow his wife. He suspects that she is having an affair, but he wants proof first before he confronts her. The agency calls to let Irvin know that his wife has met up with a Mr. Pyne and that a Mr. Gray has also joined them. Together, they enter Kazmah's, a fortune teller of sorts. He is able to read and interpret your dreams. Mr. Irvin arrives at the fortune teller's to confront them. The office is locked eerily quiet when he arrives. When the door is opened, it's discovered that Mr. Pyne has been stabbed and lays dead upon the divan. Mrs. Irvin and Kazmah, however, are nowhere in sight. Could they have been kidnapped? Or is there something else going on?Sax Rohmer was a prolific author of early science fiction and fantasy. He was perhaps best known for creating the super-villian, Dr. Fu Manchu -- a character who went on the become the subject of many films and, in fact, much plundering. (Think about it for a moment: how many evil Chinese Mandarin masterminds have you heard tell of? Remember Ian Fleming's Dr. No? Flash Gordon's Ming the Merciless? Lo-Pan, from Big Trouble in Little China? Egg Fu, from Wonder Woman? Iron Man's Mandarin? Be careful. They're everywhere.)
