She intended to write this edition ideal for young children and those young at heart. Anna Sewell was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, to a pious Quaker family. Her parents were Isaac Philip Sewell and Mary Wright Sewell. Her mother was also a fortunate novelist of children’s books. She only had one sibling named Philip.
