The Ghost: A Modern Fantasy was written by a profound and prominent writer, Arnold Bennett. The story tells about the life of Carl Foster who has currently passed the medical licensure examination, and is presently practicing medicine. Carl Foster goes to London to make his living. He encounters a popular tenor, named Signor Alresca, who is affected of a dire injury behind the curtain and Foster mends his ailment. Then he links himself into the lead soprano singer, named Rosetta Rosa, and falls head over heels with her. Alresca along with Foster goes on a trip to the house of Alresca in Bruges. Foster noticed that Alresca has quite a weird fascination over something. It is also evident that a stranger is likely chasing after his track. The story gets more threatening when all of a sudden Alresca dies. The mystery book is composed of 19 chapters namely, My Splendid Cousin, At the Opera, The Cry of Alresca, Rosa's Summons, The Dagger and the Man, Alresca's Fate, The Vigil by the Bier, The Message, The Train, The Steamer, A Chat with Rosa, Egg-and-milk, The Portrait, The Villa, The Sheath of the Dagger, The Thing in the Chair, The Menace, The Struggle, and The Intercession. Enoch Arnold Bennett (27 May 1867 – 27 March 1931) was an English writer. He is best known as a novelist, but he also worked in other fields such as journalism, propaganda and film.ennett was born in a modest house in Hanley in the Potteries district of Staffordshire. Hanley is one of a conurbation of six towns which were joined together at the beginning of the 20th century as Stoke-on-Trent. Enoch Bennett, his father, qualified as a solicitor in 1876, and the family moved to a larger house between Hanley and Burslem.Bennett was educated locally in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Bennett was employed by his father but the working relationship failed. Bennett found himself doing jobs such as rent-collecting which were uncongenial. He also resented the low pay; it is no accident that the theme of parental miserliness is important in his novels. In his spare time he was able to do a little journalism, but his breakthrough as a writer came after he had moved from the Potteries. At the age of 21, he left his father's practice and went to London as a solicitor's clerk
