  • The Day I Saw a Dragonfly

    Heather Fitzpatrick

    eBook
Heartfelt and sincere, The Day I Saw a Dragonfly by Heather Fitzpatrick is a children’s tale that makes letting go a little easier. As the author carries on her father’s dream and a family tradition of storytelling, she shares with readers a special story about angels that fly on the backs of dragonflies. Especially tender to young readers that have suffered the death of a family member or a beloved pet, this narrative celebrates life, enchantment, and the special corners of heaven. A mother and her two daughters are on a walk in the forest, when the mother, who has recently buried her father, spies a dragonfly. It is well known, she explains, that dragonflies carry angels on their backs; it is why dragonflies have an extra set of wings. The girls surmise that it must be their grandfather and a special habit begins, in which the three know in their heart that when a dragonfly nears it is a very special angel visiting them.
  • Night of the Dragonfly

    Brian McKinney

    eBook (BPM, June 22, 2019)
Night of the Dragonfly is a full length novel set in the year 2083If seventeen-year-old Shizuka Toyola, world's richest teenyshopper, hadn't needed to rid herself of an unwanted and dangerous Cyber-weapon by surgically inserting it in unsuspecting slum dweller Ford McLuhan's left arm, the oppressive world of Mobilities might have gone unchanged for centuries beyond 2084.What started as a very brief encounter with a handsome but poor teenage boy in a slum owned by her family seems to develop a life of its own, beginning with an eye-popping display of martial arts followed by a thrilling escape from a robotic shark in an artificial ocean to a race through freeways, a detour on the waters of a large canal, an offer for Ford to play professional basketball and a fun-filled night at the Solstice Ball, all in the first day they meet. With doubts sprouting at every turn, OnRamper Shizuka and her amazing Offramp boyfriend begin to wonder whether their improbable meeting in a bacteria-laden work camp and their sudden, magical romance set in her hyper-modern city is true love, a set of wonderful coincidences, or evidence that they are in the middle of a giant conspiracy with murderous intent. What they uncover together is far worse than anything they could have imagined.Night of the Dragonfly is a full length novel set in the year 2083

  • Eliza and the Dragonfly

Susie Caldwell Rinehart, Anisa Claire Hovemann

Hardcover (Dawn Pubns, March 1, 2004)
Teachers and parents! This book is a rare find, well deserving of the prestigious award from CBC-NSTA. The science about dragonflies is perfectly integrated into a story in which the remarkable metamorphosis of a dragonfly from a mucky nymph (Eeeewww, says Eliza) to a beautiful winged creature (Magnificent! says Aunt Doris) is a metaphor for the magic of how Eliza, too, grows up. Teachers will find it useful primarily in an elementary science unit on insects, life cycles and habitats, but also in for language arts lessons in theme, symbolism, and metaphor. The watercolor illustrations are rich, whimsical, and fun. There are two pages of additional science in the back. This is an exceptional example of creative non-fiction writing.
