  • The Outlaw

    David Hennessey

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Jan. 30, 2018)
Excerpt from The OutlawWinter is quaintly beautiful upon the Southern Highlands of Australia. At dawn, in the snow-grass country, a drear landscape presents itself, White with heavy frost, yet, by noon, the whole scene is trans formed into a warm sunlit fairyland. Thus, for two or three hours, in the middle of most winter days, you have, up there, summer warmth, verdure, flowers and a crystal atmosphere. But all is transitory, for behind the hills chilling Winds lie ambushed, and once the sun touches the distant skyline, they hustle winter in again to reoccupy its old territory. When night comes, with myriad stars, the still landscape is again quickly robed in pure white vesture. It was during a Winter's residence in tents in the snow-grass country that I heard the gist of the following story from one of the Old hands, a grizzled veteran whose hair was white with the frosts and snows of many winters spent among those bleak and little known highlands, which stretch for a hundred miles along the north-eastern border of the State of Victoria. Our tents were pitched on a grassy terrace in a forest clearing overlooking a rushing ice-cold crystal stream. For many miles around was bush and forest, where the foot of man, or hoof of rider's horse, rarely trod. It was a land of many wonders, the haunt of old time bushrangers and lone-hand miners, and of birds and animals becoming every year more rare.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Margaret T. 1850?-1920 Pender

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, Oct. 5, 2017)
About the Book Legal history is the study of how law has evolved over time, and why it has evolved. Legal history parallels the development of civilisations, and is a component of social history. Legal historians record the evolution of laws and provide an analysis of how these laws evolved, so that the origins of various legal concepts can be better understood. Some consider legal history to be a branch of intellectual history. Twentieth century historians assess in a more contextualised manner, much like social historians, viewing legal institutions as complex systems of rules, participants and symbols that have interacted with society to promote changes in certain aspects of civil society. Also in this Book Law office management refers to the management of a law practice. Law firms in the West tend to be composed of a single lawyer, of several lawyers, or of many lawyers, plus support staff such as paralegals, secretaries, and other personnel. Topics included in law office management are: workload management; staff management; financial management; office management; and marketing. About us Leopold Classic Library has the goal of making available to readers the classic books that have been out of print for decades. While these books may have occasional imperfections, we consider that only hand checking of every page ensures readable content without poor picture quality, blurred or missing text etc. That's why we: republish only hand checked books; that are high quality; enabling readers to see classic books in original formats; that are unlikely to have missing or blurred pages. You can search "Leopold Classic Library" in categories of your interest to find other books in our extensive collection. Happy reading!

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Jan. 24, 2018)
Excerpt from The OutlawWell, it's no concern of mine. What does concern me is that if the Squire has really cleared out of this old kennel it will make a rare meeting-place for my men and me when our work lies in these parts. He went on, and, having passed and scrutinised the sweeping double fronts and weed grown Greek portico, turned an angle of the building which led to the very old portions of Castle Adair. Then suddenly, in the open casement of an old stone mullioned window in the gable, framed in a glory of roses, he saw a face lovelier than any rose - the sweetest face he had ever seen.It was the face of a young girl Of eighteen, set in a splendour of golden hair, with eyes of a rich, deep velvety brown. The unusual combination of golden hair and a complexion exquisitely fair and soft, with those great, rich deep - brown eyes, made a type of beauty as rare as it was dazzling.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
