When her lover Garret Seward, the owner of the only decent eatery in the bayou, vanishes in a dinosaur attack, Honeywood heads out to find him. Intending to go alone, she is wary of the team she’s made to lead. There’s no one in the prison she trusts, for her rivals know the swamp is the perfect place for Honeywood to disappear. One eye on her team, the other on the dinosaur-infested swampland, Honeywood discovers she must travel farther than any of the prisoners have ever ventured before. language (Maria Tsaneva, April 21, 2013)
This color-illustrated by Maria Tsaneva book of dinosaurs introduces over 50 types of dinosaurs. Clearly written and easy to understand text introduces us to the most important of these amazing rulers of our planet Earth which suddenly disappeared about 65 million years ago.The first animals we can recognize as dinosaurs lived about 225 million years ago. To begin with dinosaurs were small animals about a meter long, running on their hind legs. Early dinosaurs were among the first animals to evolve legs for supporting great weight or moving fast to catch prey or escape enemies. It may well have given them an advantage over other animals around. The ruled our planet hundreds millions years but died out in just a few million years. By 65 million years ago they were extinct. At about this time the climate became much cooler and plant-life changed. For animals adapted to warm conditions, like dinosaurs, life became difficult. Some scientist think a sudden climatic change killed them off. This could have happened when a giant meteorite hit the Earth and threw up dust, blocking out sunlight.

  • Dinosaur

    Anna Milbourne

Paperback (Usborne Books, April 1, 2012)
This is a wonderfully imaginative artist-led picture book taking young children on a gently informative and enjoyable journey into prehistoric times. Beginning with a little boy wondering what real dinosaurs were like, the story transports readers into the prehistoric age. The tale follows a loveable stegosaurus, as he hatches from his egg and grows up, encountering a fearsome predator and then some gentle 'giants of the Jurassic'. The story ends imagining what dinosaurs would look like if they roamed the streets today, with a lovely evocative image of dinosaurs in a street scene - great fun and a good talking point for young children. Memorable, gently lyrical text gives a narrative touch to information for young children. It is attractively illustrated with Mandy Field's colourful paintings.
