Giraffes Amazing Photos & Fun Facts on Animals in Nature About GiraffeThe giraffe is scientifically called Giraffa camelopardalis and is known as the tallest mammal in the world. Giraffes are tall due to their long necks, thin legs and the unique spotted pattern of their coats. They make use of this pattern in order to camouflage themselves in different environments. These incredibly high animals are found in the savannas, grasslands and some woodlands of Africa, primarily in the central, eastern and southern parts. Giraffes live in dry areas. The existence of giraffes in general is not entirely threatened. However, there are certain subspecies such as the Nigerian and Rothschild giraffes that are considered to be endangered. The population of giraffes is about less than 80,000, and this number continues to decline. Giraffes can live an average of 25 years when they are held in captivity, but only about 10 to 15 years when they are out in the wild.
