Tom Longboat was a star long-distance runner from the rural back roads of the Six Nations Reserve. Thousands gathered to watch wherever he raced, the Boston Marathon, the Olympic Marathon, and one-on-one contests everywhere. Sadly, he ended up working as a garbageman in Toronto. Bruce Kidd, himself a former long-distance runner, writes with an insider's view.
