  • Traveling On Land

    Two-Can Editors

Paperback (Cooper Square Publishing Llc, Oct. 1, 2000)
Grade 2-4-These two books are filled with full-color photos, illustrations and diagrams, lots of white space, and a little bit of information. Subjects are briefly covered in double-page spreads that may include simple science experiments, boxes with related facts, and cross-references to other topics. Unfortunately, space is often used for unnecessary clutter, like the Quiz Corners, where obvious questions are posed about the texts. Still, these are, for the most part, adequate introductions to the topics, with clear photos and colorful illustrations of powerful, fast vehicles (Traveling on Land) and smiling, healthy kids (My Amazing Body). The writing is clear and concise, and includes details about how roads are built, how muscles work, and such. Still, all of the material is readily available elsewhere.
