  • America's Lost Dream

    Tom Dooley

Hardcover (New Leaf Press, Dec. 1, 2005)
    • Dynamic portrayal of the original dream of the founding fathers of this nation — to have “one nation under God” • This magnificent book is another big winner by the same creative team that brought you the best seller Noah’s Ark! What happened to America’s dream that men would be free and God would be their king? A nation founded on the belief that the God of the Bible and the principles expounded within its pages should be the foundation of the government, the law of the land, and the duty of the citizenry was the dream of a people who set forth from their heritage and traditions, from their families, and from the mother country that persecuted them for their religious beliefs. The probable perils of a vast ocean and the elements overwhelming their small sailing vessels, the imagined treacheries of a foundling colony in a savage land, the foreboding unknown that lay before them, none of these deterred the small group of refugees held together by the dream: to be one nation under God. The same team who created the wonderful True Story of Noah’s Ark presents the story of a people and a dream, a people that have lost their vision over the past four centuries, a dream whose meaning has been diffused in the same time-span. Artist Bill Looney’s illustrations are inspired, dramatic, and touching as they paint the story told by Tom Dooley of America, from her godly roots to her current humanistic attitude. Dooley’s text is brief, covering selected events and people who courageously took a stand to defend our nation, our beliefs, our very being.

  • Bible Code Bombshell

    R. Edwin Sherman

Paperback (New Leaf Press, June 1, 2005)
Are there hidden words and messages within the Hebrew text of the Bible? Who hid them there? What is their purpose? Author and mathematician R. Edwin Sherman presents startling, never-before-seen evidence of these codes and their significance for the world today. In this informative and entertaining new book, the astonishing contents of over 200 lengthy codes are translated by Dr. Nathan Jacobi, one of the world’s leading experts on Bible codes. Unlike other books on this topic, most of the codes presented in this book are so lengthy that they could not be coincidental. For example, while it may be possible to find “Messiah” as a code in an ordinary book, the chances of finding the longer code, “you will cry out for the blood of the Messiah,” are extremely small. A mathematician with 30 years of experience in probability and statistical analysis, Mr. Sherman explains clearly how codes show that the Bible is indeed inspired by God.
  • Aperture Masters: Berenice Abbott

    Bonnie Yochelson

Paperback (New Press, March 15, 1997)
In 1929, after eight years in Europe, photographer Berenice Abbott (1898-1991) returned to New York City for what was planned as a short visit. During her absence, hundreds of 19th-century buildings had been razed to make way for dozens of skyscrapers. The unprecedented building boom inspired Abbott to give up her thriving Parisian portrait practice to photograph the new face of New York. Soon after her return, the Stock Market crashed and the Depression began. For five years, Abbott struggled to pursue her project, reserving Wednesdays to photograph New York City. In 1935, the Federal Art Project offered her support: it gave her a 145 monthly salary, a field assistant, research assistants, a secretary, and a car. By 1940, Abbott had completed "Changing New York," one of the monumental achievements of 20th-century photography.

  • Dear Bruno

    Alice Trillin, Edward Koren

Hardcover (New Press, April 1, 1996)
In 1979, Alice Trillin, who three years earlier had been diagnosed with a malignant lung tumor, received a call from good friend Annie Navasky telling her that Annie’s twelve-year-old son, Bruno, also had cancer. Alice’s response was a letter to Bruno in which she tried to show that it was possible to talk about cancer in a tone that was frank, honest, and funny. Children and adults struggling with the ‘why me?’ of cancer will find in this book a realistic, funny, and somehow, reassuring exploration of the fight for survival. Illustrated with cartoons by New Yorker artist Edward Koren.
