On safari holiday in Africa, Ian and Doreen are visited in their tent by a very inquisitive young monkey whose parents, they learn, have mysteriously disappeared. With nobody to look after him, Monkey is invited by Ian and Doreen to live with them in Scotland. Within days of his arrival Monkey is off exploring his new surroundings, and getting into all kinds of trouble.One bright, sunny afternoon Monkey is fishing by the old Bathgate silver mines when, to his surprise, he ‘catches’ a large iron key, which he uses to open a rusty door in the side of the hill.
