  • Thy Friend, Obadiah

    Brinton Turkle, Rea Berg

Paperback (Beautiful Feet Books, June 28, 2018)
1970 Caldecott Honor Book What was a silly seagull doing, following Obadiah around like a pet? It even spent the night roosting on the chimney opposite Obadiah's bedroom window. Obadiah was annoyed. But on a bitter winter day when Obadiah needed a friend, the seagull wasn't to be seen, and Obadiah missed it. Then, when the seagull was in trouble and Obadiah was able to help, he suddenly discovered how pleasant it is to make a friend. Glowing pictures of old Nantucket set the scene for a story full of warmth and delightful understanding of the feelings of a very real little boy. Beautiful Feet Books, in cooperation with The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and Brinton Turkle's grown children--Matilda Rubin, and Haynes and Jonathan Turkle--are delighted to present these new 2018 editions of the Obadiah books for the next generation of readers. Working with Mr. Turkle's original charcoal and watercolor paintings, we have endeavored to restore the integrity, clarity, and beauty of the artist's work. • The Star Spangled Banner

    Ingri D'Aulaire, Edgar Parin D'Aulaire

Paperback (Beautiful Feet Books, June 1, 2001)
Published in 1942 shortly after America joined the Allied forces to fight Hitler's march across Europe, the d'Aulaires hoped in this way to contribute to the war effort and the nation's pride in the national anthem. With their remarkable skill in four-color lithographs, the artists have depicted seminal scenes of American life alongside the verses of the anthem. Other scenes include pioneers building a log cabin, the battle of Fort McHenry, Pilgrims arriving on the Mayflower, soldiers marching in formation, and the heroic icons of Washington and Lincoln. With a sense of heartfelt patriotism and devotion to freedom, the artists have captured the spirit of the anthem in these vibrant scenes depicting American life. 36pg

  • Benjamin West and His Cat Grimalkin

    Marguerite Henry, Rea Berg

Paperback (Beautiful Feet Books, Nov. 30, 2008)
"Today Benjamin West is remembered because he was the father of American painting; and many like to think of him as the only American ever to become President of the Royal Academy of England. But I like to remember him as the boy who wanted so very much to paint that he dug his colors out of the ground and made his brushes from his cat's tail."--Marguerite Henry Benjamin West grew up in a deeply religious Quaker family, where Quaker beliefs forbid the creation of images. But little Benjamin was born with an extraordinary gift--a gift of creating paintings of people, animals, and landscapes so true to life they "took one's breath away." How Benjamin's dilemma is solved makes for a delightful biography enhanced with Henry's whimsical illustrations.

  • Pocahontas

Edgar Parin D'aulaire, Ingri Parin D'aulaire

Paperback (Beautiful Feet Bks, Feb. 1, 1998)
First published in 1946 with the d'Aulaires's beautiful lithographic prints, this tale of the first colony at Jamestown is told from the perspective of the princess daughter of the mighty chief Powhatan. When the Natives judge the white man's magic as evil, John Smith is condemned to death—only the intervention of Pocahontas saves his life and a tentative friendship is established between Pocahontas's tribe and the new colonists. The King of England sends a crown, rich robes and a royal bed to honor Powhatan and he is pleased, but the white man's insistence that the Indians give them corn to sustain them through the long winters threatens their tenuous relationship. Pocahontas's ultimate marriage to John Rolfe, the birth of their son, their voyage to England and presentation to the King and Queen is the stuff of fairy tales except that it is one of the great true stories of America's earliest days. 46pg
