  • My Father's Dragon

    Ruth Stiles Gannett

    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, Jan. 1, 2014)
My Father's Dragon is one of the most famous books created by Ruth Stiles Gannett and tells the adventures of Elmer Elevator, a nine years old boy, on his way to rescue a little baby dragon from the fierce creatures exploiting it on the Wild Island. The story is told from the perspective of a narrator whose identity is not revealed, but who suggests that he is the protagonist's son, referring to the protagonist as "my father". This gives the readers the impression that the events presented in the book are as real as they can be.As soon as he finds out about the hard life of a baby dragon, used by the beasts from the Wild Island as means of transportation across the river, Elmer does everything he can to rescue it.This means fighting the beasts and vanquishing them one by one, and the little hero is not only courageous, but also very smart. The only "weapons" he uses for winning the freedom of the little flying dragon are chewing gum, a comb with fine teeth, a lot of lollipops and, of course, his wit.fter surpassing all the obstacles and defeating all the enemies, Elmer finally sets the baby dragon free. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, but also of a lot of marvelous adventures for the hero and his dragon, an opportunity for them both to learn some valuable life lessons. One cold rainy day when my father was a little boy, he met an old alley cat on his street. The cat was very drippy and uncomfortable so my father said, "Wouldn't you like to come home with me?
