Excerpt: ...of craft and vantage, My people are with sickness much enfeebled, My numbers lessen'd, and those few I have Almost no better than so many French; 130 140 150 Who when they were in health, I tell thee, herald, I thought upon one pair of English legs Did march three Frenchmen. Yet, forgive me, God, That I do brag thus! This your air of France Hath blown that vice in me; I must repent. I60 Go therefore, tell thy master here I am; My ransom is this frail and worthless trunk, My army but a weak and sickly guard; Yet, God before, tell him we will come on, Though France himself and such another neighbour Stand in our way. There 's for thy labour, Montjoy. Go, bid thy master well advise himself: If we may pass, we will; if we be hinder'd, We shall your tawny ground with your red blood Discolour: and so, Montjoy, fare you well. 170 The sum of all our answer is but this: We would not' seek a battle, as we are; Nor, as we are, we say we will not shun it: So tell your master. M ont. I shall deliver so. Thanks to your highness. E;vit. Glou. I hope they will not come upon us now. K. Hen. We are in God's hand, brother, not in theirs. Enter the Constable of France, the Lord Rambures, Orleans, Dauphin, with others. C on. Tut! I have the best armour of the world. Would it were day! Orl. You have an excellent armour; but let my horse have his due. C on. It is thebest horse of Europe. Orl. Will it never be morning? Dau. My Lord of Orleans, and my lord high constable, you talk of horse and armour? Orl. You are as well provided of both as any...

  • Henry IV Part II: First Folio Edition

    William Shakespeare

Paperback (Independently published, March 1, 2020)
This is the text of the 1623 printing of the first folio. The original spelling and punctuation are completely intact. I have made two minor changes. First, I have capitalized and spelled out the character names. Col. I am a Knight, Sir becomes COLLEUILE. I am a Knight, Sir. The second change is that I have put the prose lines into prose form. If there was any possibility that a prose line could scan, however awkwardly, I have left the verse-like form of the line as it appears in the folio. Again, the spelling and punctuation of the 1623 first folio text are entirely intact. If you enjoy this copy of Henry IV Part II, please take a moment to review the book online.
