  • The Bird's Christmas Carol by Kate Douglas Wiggin

    Kate Douglas Wiggin, Joanne Panettieri

    eBook (, Dec. 11, 2012)
The Bird's Christmas Carol is the story of the Bird family and their youngest child Carol who is born on Christmas. She is a lovely and sweet girl who contracts an unknown disease and becomes bedridden. Even though she is ill Carol remains sweet and generous."Perhaps because she was born in holiday time, Carol was a very happy baby. Of course, she was too tiny to understand the joy of Christmas-tide, but people say there is everything in a good beginning, and she may have breathed in unconsciously the fragrance of evergreens and holiday dinners; while the peals of sleigh-bells and the laughter of happy children may have fallen upon her baby ears and wakened in them a glad surprise at the merry world she had come to live in."Beautifully Illustrated

    Kate Douglas Wiggin

    eBook (Otbebookpublishing, Nov. 27, 2018)
The story is about Carol Bird, a Christmas-born child, who as a young girl is unusually loving and generous, having a positive effect on everyone with whom she comes into contact. She is the youngest member of her family and has devoted older brothers. At about the age of 5, Carol contracts an unspecified illness (possibly tuberculosis), and, by the time she is 10, she is bedridden; physicians say that she does not have long to live. The novel primarily involves Carol making plans for a Christmas celebration for the nine Ruggles children, a poor, working-class family living near the Birds. The book is a wistful moral tale about a saintly child, but is enlivened by many humorous scenes, particularly those concerning the home life of the Ruggles family. (Excerpt from Wikipedia)

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, April 25, 2017)
The Birds’ Christmas Carol is a well-loved children’s Christian classic first published in 1886. It is the heart warming tale of Carol Bird who was born on Christmas Day. She was an unusually loving and generous child, often thinking of ways to bring joy to others. At ten, although very ill she brings Christmas cheer to those around her by inviting a neighboring family for Christmas day. The themes and values within this book still resonate as strongly today as they did in yesteryear.
