Can true love survive the tests of separation, jealousy, political intrigue, and war? Cymbeline tells the tale of the Ancient British princess Imogen and her lowly lover Posthumus. After the two elope, Posthumus is exiled to Rome, where the scoundrel Iachimo tries to convince him of Imogen's unfaithfulness. Cymbeline has forbidden their relationship and so Posthumus flees the country. In Italy he meets Iachimo who bets Posthumus that he can seduce Imogen. Posthumus accepts the bet and sets the events that will lead to tragedy into motion. "No exorciser harm thee! Nor no witchcraft charm thee! Ghost unlaid forbear thee! Nothing ill come near thee! William Shakespeare, Francois Pierre Guilaume Guizot

Mass Market Paperback (Dodo Press, Oct. 28, 2008)

  • Cymbeline

    William Shakespeare

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Sept. 23, 2014)
No scenes in Shakespeare's plays are as intimately homoerotic as the scenes in Cymbeline in which the two brothers fall in love with the main character, who would have been a male actor playing the part of a girl disguised as a boy. It is while the brothers think the person is a boy that they fall in love with... him. Cymbeline also contains one of the best songs in all of Shakespeare. It begins: "Fear no more the heat o' the sun, / Nor the furious winter's rages; / Thou thy worldly task hast done, / Home art gone, and ta'en thy wages; / Golden lads and girls all must, / As chimney-sweepers, come to dust."

Cymbeline is a play by William Shakespeare, based on an early Celtic British King. Although listed as a tragedy in the First Folio, modern critics often classify it as a romance. Like Othello, Measure for Measure, and The Winter's Tale, it deals with the themes of innocence and jealousy. While its date of composition is unknown, the play is known to have been produced as early as 1611.
