Marion Zimmer Bradley (1930-1999) was an American author of fantasy novels such as "The Mists of Avalon" and the Darkover series, often with a feminist outlook. Her science fiction novel "The Colours Of Space" (1963) shows the influence of such writers as Leigh Brackett, Edmond Haminton, and Henry Kuttner and set the stage for her later success with the Darkover seriets.

This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Marion Zimmer Bradley was a popular author of fantasy science fiction from the 1950's to the late 1990's. In 2000, she was posthumously awarded the World Fantasy Award for lifetime achievement. In The Colors of Space, young Bart Steele, Space Academy graduate, is waiting in a spaceport for a ship to take him home when something happens that suddenly thrusts him into the center of a quest for the secret of interstellar travel. The method of faster than light travel, called "warp drive" in later Sci-Fi stories, is a tightly kept secret of an alien race known as the "Lhari." Some humans feel that they should not have to depend on the Lhari to get to far away planets and enlist Bart to help them wrest the secret from the Lhari by undertaking a perilous mission.
