  • The Magic Mirror

    J. Richardson

Paperback (Independently published, Dec. 23, 2016)
Merlin and a group of his friends were at their middle school on the night of the Fall Festival. Ms. White, a long term substitute teacher, showed them a mirror and told them to look into a mirror and think about whatever they saw. The magical mirror gave the students a curse or blessing based on how they saw themselves in the mirror. Unfortunately, it was Halloween when they looked into the mirror and everyone was wearing costumes. If they saw themselves as shorter than their friends, they might start getting shorter each day. If they thought they looked strong, they grew stronger each day. Merlin was dressed as his hero, Merlin the Enchanter, and imagined that he could do magic as well. Unfortunately, a friend was not so lucky. He had to either help his friend and risk losing his powers or forget about her and keep the powers of the mirror. Unfortunately, he and his friends were not the only ones who looked at the mirror. Another group of students had also gained powers from the mirror. They felt no need to help the cursed friend and decided to stop Merlin and his friends from getting to the mirror. Will he risk losing his powers to help his friend? Can Merlin and his friends save the cursed friend or will they be stopped by the other students?

  • The Magic Mist

    Tony Lang, Helen Marshall

    eBook (Akangaroloose.com, Aug. 20, 2014)
The Magic Mist is a fantasy, in the form of a lovely, 90-line poem , A young boy goes for a quiet walk on a path in the Australian bush (or forest). A mysterious mist descends and as the boy walks into it, assuming that it is an ordinary mist, he suddenly discovers that a magical new world of Australian bush animals is revealed: "Across my path marched lines of ants, in brightly coloured shoes and pants...." He'd seen many kangaroos in the bush - but none like the one he sees that day - a kangaroo wearing a bush hat who speaks to him, and further on, a wombat, wearing a dressing gown invites him to lunch. More surprises are in store. The full-page illustrations by Helen Marshall, are breathtakingly beautiful in their rich colours. There is a colouring-in page which includes words in the story that young readers may not know. They are encouraged to find out their meanings. The book is not only a delight to read while enjoying the illustrations; it's also very educational. There are illustrations of beautiful Australian birds, such as the sulphur-crested cockatoo, and Australian animals, such as the kangaroo, and new words to learn. The proof-reader commented: "I didn't want it to end!" That may well be the reaction of most who read this lovely story.

  • The Tale of the Magic Mirror

    Anzabar Strange

language (Stuart Law, Feb. 4, 2012)
The tale of the Magic Mirror is perhaps a little spooky. It concerns a special kind of mirror called a Spectal which is used by a wicked witch to steal jewels from the king's palace. As is normally the case in fairy tales there is a hero who recovers the jewels and gains the hand of the princess in marriage. The second tale concerns a mysterious hall where greedy young men are punished for their actions, by being turned into statues. This story was the favourite of my grand-daughter.
