This is the adventure of the bow window. It happened during a visit by my grandson Jack. This story actually began long ago when my parents taught me to read. Like Horace Mann, my parents believed a house without books is like a room without windows. Can you imagine living in a house without windows? I’m sure I couldn’t.

  • The Wide Window

    Lemony Snicket, Michael Kupperman

Library Binding (HarperCollins, Feb. 29, 2000)
Are things getting better for the Baudelaires? Could they possibly get worse? Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are fortunate to have found a new guardian, Aunt Josephine. Even though she is unusually nervous, she seems nice enough. And the children are also fortunate to be living so close to a large body of water. It's true that the lake is teeming with ferocious leeches -- but if the children wait one hour after eating, they can go swimming. It is fortunate, too, that the siblings have such a splendid view of the big dark lake. Never mind the news that Hurricane Herman is racing toward them; Aunt Josephine's house is built sturdily on a cliff. But above all, the children are lucky that they have a home now where they can rest up. For these are the unlucky Baudelaire orphans, and they will certainly need all their strength when everything that could possibly go wrong, suddenly does.

At the Window is a children's book about peace, love and hope. It is a quiet, sensitive story that invites readers to consider the undeniable nature of love. Henry and his little sister, Emily, are orphans who live under the care of Ms. Agnes at St. Peter's Orphanage. One wintry night, Henry notices a bright, shining light tear through the sky-but he is the only one who notices. The following week, he sees the light again and Henry now begins to think this is more than a coincidence. The burning light sets a spark inside of Henry's own heart and he begins to search for answers. • The Wide Window

    -Lemony Snicket -

    Unknown Binding
Dear Listener, I am sorry to say that the lives of the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched, and the one you are holding may be the worst of them all. If you haven't got the stomach for a story that includes a hurricane, hungry leeches, cold cucumber soup and a doll named Pretty Penny, then this audio will probably fill you with despair. I also shouldn't mention the interactive features of the CD, which include: * A perplexing word game * Photos from The Lemony Snicket Archives * Art from The Brett Helquist gallery I will continue to record these tragic tales for that is what I do. You should decide for yourself if you can possibly endure this miserable story. With all due respect, Lemony Snicket
