Starting to cry, she tells Pookins that Santa is sick and may not be able to deliver the presents on time. Calling a meeting on the reservoir of all the animals in Molesey he explains that he is setting off on an adventure and that they are to be ready to deliver the presents to the children of Molesey on Christmas Eve because this year Santa will be stretched for time. Enlisting the help of his friends Chris the parrot from the local pet shop and Alfred the allotment spider they set off in a race against time to find a plant in the Himalayas. When they get to Katmandu they meet Jingles a resourceful monkey who had a beautiful silver bow. Travelling through China and India, they meet the Red Panda who shows them where the plant can be found but not before they meet the terrifying vampire bats. They follow the Silk Road around the Taklimakan Desert and on to the Steppes of Russia. Here they have to outwit Kasimir and his brother and seek refuge in the Mound of Souls. At St Petersburg they meet the Count, Miles and Klara who continue on the journey with them. Hus and his family of Beavers help them to travel a long way through Finland where they meet the Silent People and the Giant Arturin who takes them to the dwarves and the Amethyst mines. The King allows them to travel through the mines as the Ice Trolls hold the mountain pass and in payment they capture Zolderon who has been terrorising the dwarves. They are taken by Rudgard to the witches Councilitorium to ask for help finding Renkie the Northern witch. Before flying to Vinterdorf, where Renkie lives, the witches and our band of heroes must address the balance of the Mara or she-werewolves who during the winter months prey on the villagers livestock. At Vinterdorf, Renkie makes the cure for Santa and they have to summon Gregor and his Walruses to take them on their next part of their journey. Using the sea chariots they make their way to Svalbard. Gregor and his Walruses were on their way to reclaim their ancestors home of Halthorstein which stands between them and the Lomonosov Ridge. Joining Gregor and his army they take on the Snow Hounds, Ice Trolls and the McGriffin with the help of the Aurora Witches. Making it to the Lomonosov Ridge just in time, they meet the snow wolves that Jen has sent to fetch them. Giving the draft to Santa, they have to wait for it to take effect so visit all his workshops. They help Santa get ready for his big night and jump aboard his sleigh. When they arrive back in Molesey they meet the animals at Hampton Court Palace and help to deliver the presents.
