They have been updated in line with the simple view of reading and the renewed Primary Framework for Literacy. They nowinclude guidance for group/guided reading, comprehension and word recognition, and assessment. These replace the existing Teaching Notes and Guided Reading Cards.The storybooks are unchanged, but notes for parents/carers and teaching assistants have been added to the inside covers. These notes replace the existing Take-Home Cards.

The range of activities to accompany each storybook encourages children to look more closely at the stories, to focus on comprehension, aspects of language and grammar; develop greater rhymeawareness; sequencing skills and alphabet knowledge and creative writing. There is a progression within the stage and from stages 8 to 9.
