  • Orthodoxy

    G. K. Chesterton, Rory Barnett

    MP3 CD (Brilliance Audio, May 7, 2019)
After the success of Heretics, G. K. Chesterton was challenged and compelled to share the story of his pilgrimage to faith. The result is this bracing, watershed religious autobiography in which he follows the doctrines determined in the Apostle’s Creed to deliver a personal, yet universal, defense of Christianity. Ultimately, the literary giant answers the question—not of whether divinity can be believed—but rather, how he himself came to believe it.One of the twentieth century’s most influential works, Chesterton’s dynamic and oftentimes sharply witty testimony remains a masterpiece of Christian apologetics.Revised edition: Previously published as Orthodoxy, this edition of Orthodoxy (AmazonClassics Edition) includes editorial revisions.
  • Orthodoxy

    G. K. Chesterton

Paperback (Independently published, Sept. 12, 2019)
In Orthodoxy, a classic work of Christian apologetics, G. K. Chesterton writes with the purpose of attempting "an explanation, not of whether the Christian Faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it." Christianity, in Chesterton's original view, is the "answer to a riddle" and the natural solution to our needs, and in this way it is deeply personal rather than an arbitrary truth from outside one's experience. Orthodoxy is the culmination of Chesterton's free-thinking and well-reasoned inquiry as he seeks an explanation to the mystery of being human.
  • Orthodoxy

    G. K. Chesterton

Paperback (Dover Publications, July 15, 2020)
Orthodoxy, as G. K. Chesterton employs the term here, means "right opinion." In this, the masterpiece of his brilliant literary career, he applies the concept of correct reasoning to his acceptance of Christianity. Written in a down-to-earth and familiar style, he presents formal and scholarly arguments in the explanation and defense of the tenets underlying his faith. Paradox and contradiction, Chesterton maintains, do not constitute barriers to belief; imagination and intuition are as relevant to the processes of thought and understanding as logic and rationality. "Whenever we feel there is something odd in Christian theology," he observes, "we shall generally find that there is something odd in the truth." He defines his insights with thought-provoking analogies, personal anecdotes, and engaging humor, making this century-old book a work of enduring charm and persuasion.

    Hardcover (Simon & Brown, July 25, 2011)
    G. K. Chesterton wrote of Orthodoxy that it was an attempt to state his belief 'in a vague and personal way, in a set of mental pictures rather than in a series of deductions'. For most of its readers, it is the wittiest and most rollicking defence of the Christian faith ever written.

  • Orthodoxy

    G. K. Chesterton

    eBook (, Dec. 1, 2014)
This book is meant to be a companion to "Heretics," and to put the positive side in addition to the negative. Many critics complained of the book called "Heretics" because it merely criticised current philosophies without offering any alternative philosophy. This book is an attempt to answer the challenge. It is unavoidably affirmative and therefore unavoidably autobiographical. The writer has been driven back upon somewhat the same difficulty as that which beset Newman in writing his Apologia; he has been forced to be egotistical only in order to be sincere. While everything else may be different the motive in both cases is the same. It is the purpose of the writer to attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian Faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it. The book is therefore arranged upon the positive principle of a riddle and its answer. It deals first with all the writer's own solitary and sincere speculations and then with all the startling style in which they were all suddenly satisfied by the Christian Theology.

  • Orthodoxy

    Gilbert Keith Chesterton

Audio CD (Catholic Audio Publishing, Aug. 16, 2009)
From the pen of one of Christianity's greatest defenders comes one of the most popular and highly sought after defenses of orthodox Christian belief. To be orthodox is to be of right opinion or belief. This work is a rollicking and right reasoned autobiography of how Chesterton came to believe in the virtues of Orthodox Christianity. Chesterton puts traditional Christian orthodoxy in dialogue with modern philosophies, eastern mysticism, and basically every other set of errors - the same systems of error that continue to pervade our culture. This book is by far Chesterton's magnum opus and has become one of the greatest books of the twentieth century. This reading of Orthodoxy brings G.K. alive as if he were in dialogue with the enemies of faith and reason. While listening to this masterpiece, the rhetoric, style and smooth presentation of thought draws the reader into what Chesterton himself calls the "romance of orthodoxy." Named as one of 10 "indispensible spiritual classics" of the past 1500 years. - - Publishers Weekly
