This book is part of the "New Directions" series which is designed to show how today's "green" ideas are changing individuals' and governments' attitudes and actions on different social topics. The books present both the advantages and drawbacks of the "new directions" being taken. This book shows how people and governments are taking action to save and protect the Earth's resources, wilderness areas, plants, animals and tribal peoples because of the new "green" beliefs that material wealth and economic growth are not necessarily desirable and that environmental problems should take priority over economic ones.
