  • Killer Plants

    David Orme

Paperback (Ransom Publishing, Sept. 28, 2009)
Meet the killer plants. These plants don't bother with sunlight or water. They eat meat instead. Insects, rats, mice ... Remember - you could be next! Then find out which bean is 12,000 times more poisonous than rattlesnake venom. You'd better get the facts. Then read the story 'Where's Mr Potts?' You'll be a bit more careful next time you cut some flowers. This fantastic book features an exciting combination of both fiction and non-fiction. The non-fiction section enables readers to engage with the subject matter, using dramatic illustrations and bite-sized texts. The beautifully illustrated fiction story appears in two formats - short, simple texts for more able readers and an illustrated 'speech bubble' version of the same story, for those who are really struggling. Part of the Trailblazers series, this book is brilliant for keeping reluctant readers engaged.

  • The Dark Machine

    Peter Lancett

Paperback (Ransom Publishing, Oct. 1, 2007)
The Shadow Masters have called a machine from the Realm of Screams. The machine can do much harm. The Dark Man must find the machine before the Shadow Masters can use it. Dark Man is a fiction series for older children and young adults who have a reading age of approximately 7 to 8. Each book features the character Dark Man, a shadowy, brooding loner who shuns society, living in the shadows. Recruited to play a part in a secret, cataclysmic struggle between good and evil, his continued mission is to seek out an artifact, a Golden Cup, which can channel limitless power and energy. Opposed to him, and also seeking to find this cup of power, is a sinister and corrupt organization, The Shadow Masters. The book has a strong plot to engage the reader, however reluctant, and features dark evocative illustrations. The simple, carefully written text (around 1,000 words) focuses on the most common words, providing access for even the poorest readers. The series will reach an untapped market of older children and adults with low literacy levels.
