Rocky Road is a fast-paced, humorous story that will appeal to readers who know the challenges of dealing with obnoxious siblings, disloyal friends, and overextended parents. Duncan Baxter's father has lost his job and been out of work for a long time. Dad finally starts working for his own mother in the small bakery that she owns, and the family moves from their country home into her tiny apartment above the bakery. At times, Duncan struggles with the new normal. He likes living in town, but misses not living next door to his best friend, Rory. And he has mixed feelings about the new girl who's moved into his old house - he wonders if it's possible to love and hate someone at the same time. Duncan's older sister, Claire, is miserable about the new living arrangements, which include sharing a bedroom with Grandma, and tries to make everyone else unhappy too. When a big chain bakery comes to town, Duncan's problem-solving skills are put to the test. Can he figure out a way to save the bakery so the family doesn't lose that too?
