(Westwood Books Publishing LLC, Aug. 13, 2019)
Clan Malloc was born in London England. (Alan Mccoll writing as Clan Malloc). Growing up as a child in London during “The Blitz,” he had a near-miss with a “Doodle Bug” (Flying Bomb) which leveled a whole block of apartments in his neighborhood. (Alan Mccoll writing as Clan Malloc) He was then evacuated to Palmore, an estate near London, as a companion to Prince Leika of the displaced Royal Family of Albania. At sixteen he hitch-hiked in post war Spain, France and Germany. After a stint in the British RAF, he emigrated to the United States. He flew antique aircraft and became a flight instructor. Enjoying the vistas while flying the airlines in Puerto Rico, and cargo from Miami to South America while living in San Juan inspired Alan to become a muralist and painter. Alan draws heavily on these experiences to give us the adventures of Spencer. He lives with his wife, Donna in San Francisco.
  • If I Die Before I Wake: A Caregiver's Journey

    Eli Shaw

Hardcover (Westwood Books Publishing LLC, March 21, 2019)
It all began in 1958 when I was ten. A young family had just moved into the neighborhood. One sunny summer day while I was sitting on the steps to my house, a young boy came up to me and rolled his ball to my feet. With the sun in my face I said hi and rolled it back. He ran off. A few days later he did it again. I eventually became friends with him. I told my mom that a Chinese family had moved into the neighborhood and their son, Charlie, was my new friend. She said, bring him over for supper. I did and after supper he left and my mom told me a story about people who have something called "Mongoloidism", now Down Syndrome. I became his mentor to protect him from the bullies and I got beat up more than he did. He suddenly left and I vowed that I would do something in my life that would change that bullying attitude. This book is about the sixty years since that time where I made good on my vows. It is a group of chapters that comprise the ah ha moments in my journey as a caregiver all over the world. I hope you enjoy and are enlightened by my story.

    Janis Arnold

Paperback (Westwood Books Publishing LLC, Sept. 8, 2018)
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" At some point in their young lives, this question is heard by most children. My poetry book What I Want to Be from A to Z is a fun way to learn about a variety of careers. Each poem contains vocabulary that will help children learn about a career. When children become familiar with a rhyming book, they begin to make predictions, which is an important part of early reading skills. My two main characters are foxes: a female English red fox named Fiona, and an American gray fox named Fernando. While reading through the book, the reader will view on some of the poems one of the foxes dressed up for that career.Early childhood education is an important part of our education system in America. Literacy plays a vital role in these classrooms. Learning the concept of reading at a young age will enhance their academic success, which will help them be successful through their school years. Books play a vital role in the classroom to encourage a love of reading. During preschool and kindergarten, parents are encouraged by the teachers to read to their child daily. Reading material that contains information and is not just a story encourages critical thinking skills which will help these students achieve higher goals at school.

  • The Rocking Horse Diary

    Alan Combes, John Sunderland

Paperback (Fantastic Books Publishing, Dec. 2, 2018)
My name is Kirk Ellis. I am nine years old. This is my story. So begins the Rocking Horse Diary, penned by Kirk who wants to tell the story of his grandad, Sidney Mudge, who is “a very special man and possibly the world’s best grandad”. Although Kirk and his grandad are fictional characters, Alzheimer's is not, and Alan Combes’ story is based on real events. There is a strong vein of comedy in the story. As Alan says, ‘Without humour, coping with dementia would be an impossible task.’ It was the author’s intention that love and affection would shine through the moments of tragedy, and indeed it does. His goal, which we believe readers will agree he has achieved, was to help young people towards a better understanding of a horrible illness.‘Feeling connected is such a vital part of our wellbeing and people living with dementia can often feel isolated. For Kirk and his grandad building a “Magic Rocking Horse” together, while sharing stories and jokes along the way helps them to understand each other and allows them to maintain a positive connection as grandad’s dementia progresses. This is such an important message for families who care for someone living with dementia.’ Dr Lynne Corner, Director of Newcastle University’s Dementia Innovation Hub
