MP3 CD (The Classic Collection, March 21, 2017)
After a mysterious sea monster damages an ocean liner, the US government assembles a team in New York City to track down the creature and destroy it. French marine biologist Pierre Aronnax receives a last-minute invitation, as does Canadian harpoonist Ned Land. They leave aboard the Abraham Lincoln, bound for Cape Horn and then the Pacific Ocean. But all is not as it seems. When they find the monster and attack, the Abraham Lincoln is damaged, and Aronnax and Land end up thrown onto the monster’s hide. Where they expect to find flesh, there is metal. The monster they have been hunting is in fact a submarine called the Nautilus, captained by a mysterious renegade named Nemo. Aronnax and Land are swiftly taken captive aboard the impossible vessel, which then dives deep beneath the waves. So begins the adventure of a lifetime for Aronnax and Land, as Nemo refuses to ever let them leave for fear that they will reveal the truth about the Nautilus. And all too soon, Aronnax and Land discover the submarine's purpose: Nemo is on a mission to seek out scientific knowledge and wreak revenge on the civilization that destroyed his family. It is during the pursuit of this mission that the Nautilus explores shipwrecks, hunts sharks, visits the real Atlantis, and ventures to the deepest, darkest reaches of the oceans.

Barron.Jules Verne is considered the "Father of Science Fiction" because of the power of this--his most famous novel."The year 1866 was signalised by a remarkable incident, a mysterious and puzzling phenomenon, which doubtless no one has yet forgotten. Not to mention rumours which agitated the maritime population and excited the public mind, even in the interior of continents, seafaring men were particularly excited. Merchants, common sailors, captains of vessels, skippers, both of Europe and America, naval officers of all countries, and the Goverments of several States on two continents, were deeply interested in the matter. For some time past vessels had been met by 'an enormous thing,' a long object, spindle-shaped, occationally phosphorescent, and infinitely larger and more rapid in its movements than a whale."It is this "something" that Professor Aronnaz sets out to encounter--and thus begins the most incredible underwater journey ever. From Atlantis to the South Pole, the reader is taken through dangers, surprises, and the unsurpassed majesty of the marine world. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

"20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” is a classic science fiction novel by Jules Verne published in 1870. It tells the story of Captain Nemo and his submarine Nautilus, as seen from the perspective of Professor Pierre Aronnax. The title refers to the distance travelled while under the sea and not to a depth, as 20,000 leagues is over six times the diameter, and nearly three times the circumference of the Earth. The greatest depth mentioned in the book is four leagues. The book uses metric leagues, which are four kilometres each. A literal translation of the French title would end in the plural "seas", thus implying the "seven seas" through which the characters of the novel travel. The book was highly acclaimed when released and still is now; it is regarded as one of the premiere adventure novels and one of Verne's greatest works.Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright best known for his adventure novels and his profound influence on the literary genre of science fiction.
