    Thornton W. Burgess

Audio CD (St. Clare Audio, March 15, 2017)
2 Audio CD's - 1 Hour and 36 Minutes. The Adventures of Prickly Porky another humorous and exciting adventure in the great series of children's books by conservationist Thornton W. Burgess. A stranger from the North Woods has just arrived in the Green Forest causing a great stir among the woodland creatures who live there. They quickly discover that this odd fellow with the barbed spikes in his fur is the loyal and brave Prickly Porky the Porcupine. Not long after Prickly Porky arrives, a bit of early morning fun leads to a forest mystery that draws friends and foes alike into the investigation of an unknown headless, tailless, whirling creature seen only at sunrise on the hill by Prickly Porky's home. In this volume you'll find many of our friends from Burgess' other books including: Unc' Billy Possum, Peter & Mrs. Peter Rabbit, Buster Bear, Granny & Reddy Fox, Sammy Jay, and more. This classic combines all the fun of a good story with gentle lessons about wildlife, caring for the world we're blessed to live in, and virtues to live by. Our CDs are packaged in premium DVD cases with CD labeling printed right on the CD in full color. We do not use paper stick-on labels, these tend to peel off over time and can really jam up car CD players and computers. Please note: All recordings we offer on CD are produced with recordings from Librivox, public domain works recorded by volunteers. We at St. Clare Audio would like to thank the volunteers for their gift of offering their work to the public domain. St. Clare Audio's niche is providing them in ready-to-purchase CD sets, for those who cannot download, or have not the desire or time to do so, as well as the benefit of a nice case and professionally produced CDs. • The Adventures of Prickly Porky

    Thornton W. BURGESS (1874 - 1965)

    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, Aug. 16, 2016)
The Adventures of Prickly Porky is one more story by Thornton W. Burgess that revolves around a newcomer who first scares the others, but soon befriends them. The newcomer is Prickly Porky, the Porcupine, a strange-looking creature with scary spikes on his back – no wonder everybody is afraid of him first –, but who soon proves to be nice and great fun to be with. There is a learning curve for everyone in the process of getting to know Prickly Porky. Bowser the Hound, for example, attacks him and learns the hard way not to attack a porcupine ever again – as can be expected of the spiky animal, he rolls up in a ball whenever he feels threatened, so Bowser must soon give up his attempts grab and shake Porky. The arrival of Prickly Porky and his integration in the community of the Meadow is not the only important string of events in the story, though. There are lots of other occurrences that are just as important – Old Man Coyote suffers from a diminished appetite and important things happen in the life of the other characters as well, all recounted in the perfect style. As one of the most well-known conservationists of his time, Burgess drew the inspiration for his stories from the immediate natural surroundings of his mansion. Also known as the Bedside Story Man, Burgess knows how to grab the attention of his young audience – he creates characters that children of all ages can relate to, he tells the most exciting stories about them and he also gives them food for thought. What brings the stories even closer to the readers is the resemblance between the animal characters and human beings, so the conflicts and situations that these animal heroes are involved in are also very similar to the situations and conflicts that we, humans, young and old, are faced with day by day.
