  • The Autobiography of a Slander

    Edna LYALL (1857 - 1903)

    (IDB Productions, July 6, 2017)
The Autobiography of a Slander shows the outcomes of thoughtless phrases or, what is worse, calculatedly belittling phrases. This principled story, told from the insight of the slander herself, Edna Lyall, the fictitious name of Ada Ellen Bayley, tells her epitomes and objectives in life and relationships. It include contents on My First Stage; My Second Stage; My Third Stage; My Forth Stage; My Fifth Stage; My Sixth Stage; My Seventh Stage; My Triumphant Finale. Ada Ellen Bayly was an author and an early feminist. Bayly was born in Brighton, the youngest of four children of a lawyer. At a young age, both her parents died and she spent her childhood with an uncle in Surrey and in a Brighton private school. Bayly remained unmarried and she is likely to have spent her womanhood with her two married sisters and her brother, a priest in Bosbury in Herefordshire. Her first book, Won by Waiting, written under the pseudonym of Edna Lyall. The novel was a failure. She was successful with We Two, from the real life story of Charles Bradlaugh, a social reformer and advocate of free thought. Her classical story In the Golden Days was the final novel read to John Ruskin on his deathbed. Hope the Hermit was the most popular situated in the Lake District which was then a spur for Hugh Walpole's Rogue Herries. She authored all in all 18 books, most of which propounding appealing discoveries of the author's artistic styles. Most of her fame is because of her use of varying characters from one story to the other. She was also known for her other novels such as Won by Waiting; Donovan; We Two, sequel of the former; In the Golden Days; To Right the Wrong, 3 vols.; Doreen: The Story of a Singer; The Autobiography of a Truth; Hope the Hermit; and The Burgess Letters.
