The precursor to Tales of Mystery and Imagination was a collection of Poe's works entitled Tales of Mystery, Imagination and Humor. The title "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" was first used by "The World's Classics", London, and printed by Grant Richard.

‘Tales of Mystery and Imagination’ was written by the celebrated and prolific author, Edgar Allen Poe (1809 - 1849). Poe only started writing in earnest from his mid twenties, but found fame with a series of short stories, such as ‘The Tell Tale Heart’, ‘William Wilson’ and ‘The Fall of the House of Usher.’ This book contains a collection of some of the finest of these stories, including all three previous as well as ‘The Gold Bug’, ‘Descent into the Maelstrom’, ‘Murders in the Rue Morgue’ and ‘The Premature Burial.’ This text contains an author biography, briefly detailing Poe’s life, an introduction and the ‘tales’ themselves.
